Rob Conway

Rob conway, is a talented reportage illustrator, who produces a wide array of different work styles, and techniques. He is based in Birmingham, England.

He is an artist who works with 'Action Space Mobile', and works in collaboration with others. For example school children with special educational needs. He also runs 'creative wellbeing sessions' for adults dealing with mental health issues.

He also runs workshops that involve a variety of different crafts, such as banner painting, mural work, card making, T-shirt printing and book making.

As an addition, he also works for the New Art Gallery Walsall, delivering the education programme to schools, and books in the library.

Some of my work is very similar to his reportage style, I took some inspiration from Rob Conway's art style. I will include an example photo below, as an image featuring my own reportage work.

As you can see, my work (above) is very similar in terms of mark making, and colour. Like Rob, I have used rough lines, to sketch structures, and objects. The pier on my illustration, is very similar to the crane on Rob Conway's sketch, I tried to emulate this style, for this piece.

Franki Wilde Life Drawing

I'm just making a post to update, detailing the life drawing session that I took part in a few weeks ago.

The lengthy session involved drawing, and sketching Franki Wilde, a specialist burlesque dancer, in a variety of different styles, techniques, materials and poses. She was a very interesting character, and the session really helped with drawing movement and poses. Apart from her figure, her dress was a very great item to draw, due to the texture and feathers.

With this, I sketched a range of drawings, from continuous line, to quick 30 second drawings, blind contour drawing and drawing on top of other sketches.

I produced half a sketchbook based on these life drawings alone, with interesting, and experimental results. This session really helped with my human figure skills, and human anatomy.

Krisna Chavda

Found this great illustrator on Pinterest :) love some of her work... I would recommend a look :)

Krisna Chavda is an illustrator, surface designer and a self described traveller. She creates reportage images, as well as other types and genres of artwork. I really love how she uses her line art.

John York

John York, a commercial illustrator who uses a lot of charcoal, and pastel in his work, to create stunning pieces.

He trained at Medway college of art, during the 1960's. He was a graphic designer and visualiser, before his retirement. In his retirement years, he has claimed, that he has had the time to rediscover painting, and work on his drawing skills. His retirement has also given him the opportunity to work more in pastels, and other mediums.

I really like his work, I love how he has used charcoal to create well shaded pieces, that contain depth and a lot of tone. As someone who likes the use of texture in artwork, this really features a quality, balanced texture, with its distinct charcoal look.

Miyuki Sakai

Miyuki Sakai is a very interesting illustrator, who uses sewing techniques, in continuous line formations. She creates beautiful, and highly detailed pieces, with extraordinary care, and attention to perfection. She in my opinion, is one of the most unique illustrators I have researched to date #research #reportage

She grew up in Osaka, Japan, and she claims on her webpage, that she used to watch her mother make her family's clothes, using a needle and thread. This is probably the reason why she decided to adopt the unique idea of using a sewing machine.

She began her career as a freelance illustrator in the bustling city of Tokyo, after graduating from an art college in Kyoto. over the span of her career as an illustrator, she has won, and received many awards, a notable one being a bronze prize for the editorial design category in the ADC 2011 awards.

David Ochiltree

A very good, and highly detailed selection of charcoal illustrations, by David Ochiltree. 

David Ochiltree is an illustrator and artist, who has had over 30 years of artistic experience. He works with many genres, from children's illustration to such genres as architecture. He has produced commission work for many different corporations and people, for example to name a few, I will list them here. Cadbury, Oxfam, city councils and many educational institutes.

Apart from using charcoal, he uses many other various mediums, such as pencil, ink, watercolour, pastel and digital.

Collaboration

This link shares an example of illustrator collaboration, a neat story about an illustrator, and her four year old daughter.

Angela Hendricks is an illustrator who creates work collaboratively, but with an interesting twist. Her 4 year old daughter adds to pieces that Hendricks creates, creating interesting results.

Flamingo land

Hey there :)

Thought I'd update my blog, highlighting that my studies will now be of animal anatomy, and drawing a range of various animals. I would also like to highlight, that this Wednesday (9/10/13), I will be venturing to flamingo land as part of a univeristy trip. 

The day will consist of drawing, and studying live animals, using a wide variety of techniques. I will have my entire art equipment at hand, so I'll be ready to experiment, and venture outside of my comfort zone.

I will post my photos, and my drawings to google+, and I will also entitle a new blog on blogger. I am really excited for it :)

Book 4

Hello :)

Thought I'd make a blog to keep tabs on how far my progress is coming along, I'm mid way through my fourth sketchbook, after completing one A4, one A5 and one A6 book. I am currently working in a small, square sketchpad, and I am filling it up with everyday drawings.

Monday, I start sketching animals, so I am very looking forward to that, will be a busy day :)

Durham

2/10/13 Durham Trip

Had a visit to Durham city today, loads of interesting things to sketch, the first stop was the cathedral, I found the courtyard beautiful, so I attempted several drawings in this area alone.

I also took many photos of reportage imagery, so I could try using different materials later on, such as charcoal, and ink.

A very well rounded day, and I will be drawing off the photos I have taken over the next few days.
